FilmNation Lands Dan Fogelman's ‘Life Itself'

One of the most sought after scripts of the year with multiple suitors and offers, Dan Fogelman’s original screenplay LIFE ITSELF, which Fogelman will direct, has landed with FilmNation Entertainment, the company announced today. FilmNation will fully finance, produce and handle international sales for the film. Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce with FilmNation. WME will handle the US rights. Fogelman, who wrote the script, will produce and direct. Pre-production will begin in December with principal photography set to start in March 2017 in Spain and New York. The search for a cast is currently underway.

The story is a multi-generational love story, weaving together a number of characters whose lives intersect over the course of decades from the streets of New York to the Spanish countryside and back.

“Dan Fogelman has one of the most original voices in cinema today. He’s got a gift for telling stories that are both surprising and moving, and we’re so excited to make this film with him and our friends Marty and Wyck at Temple Hill,” said FilmNation Entertainment CEO Glen Basner.

Fogelman’s directorial debut DANNY COLLINS was released last year starring Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Christopher Plummer, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Garner and Josh Peck. In television, Fogelman will have two new drama series debuting in the 2016-17 season, both which he created and will Executive Produce: “This Is Us” (NBC/20th) directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficara and “Pitch” (FBC/20TH) which is being produced in cooperation with Major League Baseball. Fogelman’s period musical comedy “Galavant” ran for two seasons and featured the music of award-winning composer Alan Menken and guest-starred Ricky Gervais. Fogelman also created and executive-produced the network comedy “The Neighbors,” starring Jami Gertz; and “Like Family.”

Fogelman started in Hollywood working for “The Howie Mandel Show,” “The Man Show,” and TV Guide Channel, where he wrote 60-second celebrity bios.
