Academy Awards: 'The Big Sick' Nominated for Best Original Screenplay

It looks like those three years of fine-tuning their story paid off for Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. This morning, the Academy Awards announced the nominees for the 2018 ceremony, and 'The Big Sick' was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

This marks the 7th major award nomination for 'The Big Sick.' Kumail and Emily also received Best Screenplay nominations at the Writers Guild Awards, Gotham Awards and Spirit Awards. 'The Big Sick' was one of the Movie of the Year winners at the AFI Awards, and won Best Comedy at the Critics Choice Awards.

Thinking about how this film started, it's truly been an incredible journey. From coming on to finance the picture to premiering at Sundance and bringing on Amazon Studios as our partner (for the highest sale at the festival in 2017). From sending Kumail and Emily around the world on a non-stop press tour, to watching the film win Best Comedy at the Critics Choice Award. All the way to this morning.

Congratulations to all of the nominees. The 90th Academy Awards will take place on March 4, 2018.
