FilmNation & Bleecker Street Team For Worldwide Release Of Father-Daughter Drama ‘Treasure’ Starring Lena Dunham, Stephen Fry

January 16, 2024

FilmNation Entertainment and Bleecker Street will partner on the worldwide release of "Treasure" (formerly known as "Iron Box"), a road trip film featuring Lena Dunham (Girls) and Stephen Fry (The Sandman). The movie is set to have its world premiere as a special gala presentation at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

Directed by Julia von Heinz and based on Lily Brett’s bestselling autobiographical novel "Too Many Men," the film marks the first collaboration in global co-distribution between FilmNation Entertainment and Bleecker Street. The two companies previously worked together on projects like Waitress: The Musical and Sebastián Lelio’s Disobedience. "Treasure" is part of Von Heinz’s "Aftermath Trilogy," delving into the legacy of Germany’s Nazi past, following Hanna’s Journey (2013) and Germany’s official 2020 Oscar entry, And Tomorrow the Entire World.

Set in 1990s Poland, the narrative revolves around Ruth (Dunham), an American music journalist, and her father, Edek (Fry), a charmingly stubborn Holocaust survivor, embarking on a journey to his homeland. The storyline explores Ruth's quest to understand her family's history, while Edek has his own agenda for the trip. The film captures the emotional and humorous culture clash as two New Yorkers navigate post-socialist Poland, showcasing how the exploration of family and the past can yield unexpected treasures.

"Treasure," written by Von Heinz and John Quester, also features Zbigniew Zamachowski (Three Colors franchise). The Seven Elephants production, led by Fabian Gasmia and Von Heinz, along with Lena Dunham for Good Things Going, brings a compelling story to life. The executive producers include Glen Basner and Ben Browning of FilmNation Entertainment, Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson of Bleecker Street, and Michael Cohen of Good Thing Going. FilmNation is handling international sales for the film.
