Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for Rupert Sanders’ reimagining of “The Crow,” featuring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs in leading roles. Scheduled for release on June 7th, the film promises a haunting tale of vengeance and supernatural resilience.

Drawing inspiration from James O’Barr’s graphic novel, both the original 1994 rendition, starring the late Brandon Lee, and this upcoming adaptation delve into the dark realms of loss and retribution. In Sanders’ iteration, Skarsgård embodies Eric Draven, whose life intertwines tragically with that of his girlfriend, Shelly (portrayed by FKA Twigs). Driven by a thirst for justice, Eric returns from death’s embrace, endowed with otherworldly abilities, ready to confront the perpetrators of their demise.

The newly released trailer showcases Eric’s resurrection and his relentless pursuit of bloody retribution. Empowered with supernatural resilience, he withstands bullets, blades, and beyond as he embarks on a perilous journey to avenge Shelly’s murder. Scenes of intense violence unfold, including a chilling moment where Eric impales himself to dispatch an unexpected assailant, showcasing the character's unwavering determination.

In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Sanders delves into the film’s thematic depth, emphasizing its exploration of loss, grief, and the enigmatic boundary between life and death. He articulates, “What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that.”

Reflecting on the legacy of the original film and the tragic demise of Brandon Lee during its production, Sanders acknowledges the weight of history while expressing a profound reverence for Lee's portrayal of Eric Draven. He notes, “Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with ‘The Crow,’ and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film.”

Skarsgård, renowned for his portrayal of Pennywise in the “It” horror franchise, steps into the shoes of Eric Draven, while FKA Twigs, known for her role in "Honey Boy" alongside Shia LaBeouf, embodies the tragic figure of Shelly.

The original “Crow” film inspired three sequels released between 1996 and 2005, establishing a lasting legacy within the realm of dark fantasy.
