Spencer: Venice Reviews

September 03, 2021

SPENCER premiered today at the 78th Venice Film Festival to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Directed by Pablo Larraín, the film follows the breakdown of the marriage between Princess Diana, played by Kristen Stewart, and Prince Charles, played by Jack Farthing. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. SPENCER is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.

"Director Pablo Larraín, who upended the conventions of the genre with ‘Jackie,’ examines another iconic woman in crisis, this time as the last illusions of her fairy-tale marriage crumble."

- David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter

"The director of "Jackie" has made an enthralling drama of Diana's moment of truth and transition."

- Owen Gleiberman of Variety

"Kristen Stewart Finds The Private Diana In Pablo Larrain’s Superb Royal Breakup Drama."

- Pete Hammond of Deadline

"Kristen Stewart’s entirely compelling Di has no escape from the dress-up game of monarchy in Pablo Larraín’s unreverential movie."

- Xan Brooks of The Guardian  (5/5 Stars)

SPENCER will be distributed in the US by NEON
